I try not to complain, but man it frustrates me when a vendor puts a part on sale and then I get an email that it’s back ordered....I realize it’s December and I don’t need the part right away, but really.....

You aren't the only one. They say they have 2 in stock, you order, then boom, backordered. We know that things aren't ordered that fast, looks like their computer would keep better inventory.
 
Or, (and not an LBC dealer), parts shows on the website as "in stock". Takes the card, confirms the purchase...and six hours later an e-mail that NOT in stock, estimated SIX MONTHS, and I cancel...and they are NOT happy...so I call the credit card company and make SURE it's cancelled.
 
My front bumperettes were back ordered for 2 years! By the time they came in I misplaced all the seals and hardware to install them. Still not installed to this day waiting for everything to turn up after 3 moves since the parts were ordered.
 
I’ve had a back ordered label for my brake fluid reservoir since August. The email I got when notified said 4 weeks....

Certainly some extreme examples above but in general I think we are lucky to be able to get the replacement parts at all. In the grand scheme of automotive replacement parts LBCs are insignificant and back orders are a natural consequence of the tiny market. I welcome back orders for my Lotus because it means there is at least some hope of getting the part in the future rather than the disappointing NLA.
I personally have never had any trouble cancelling back orders and I think some vendors even have a "cancel back order" checkbox on the order form. I find that if the part is in the catalogs you can usually find some vendor that has it on hand (don't limit yourself to the "big 3 or 4"). Probably not true with very rare parts like John's TR2 bumperettes, but I think his car looks pretty cool without them.
