MGB-GT Autoist or usasma 74.5 GT question

Tony or John.. Need to ask a favour of either of you. I finally got a chance to spend a bit of time with the GT today. Seems the pasenger side rear wheel well opening is 1 1/2 inches wider at its widest point then the drivers rear wheel well opening. When I fit tested the dogleg patch on the drivers side, it wasn't wide enough, odly enough, by about an inch.
If either of you gentlemen get a chance to go to your cars tomorow or so and measure the widest part of the wheel well, about ten inches up, I would appreciate it. Would like to know if I have to add or remove.
Thanks

Paul

I measured straight up (following curve of fender) from the bottom edge of the quarter right at the bottom edge of the wheelwell - came to 10" - on both sides.

Tony, I think he's asking for the width of the wheel well opening (across the wheel at the 10" mark up from the bottom of the car).

Guess I am cutting one side at least. Guess that is what happens when a DPO puts new metal on top of the existing panels.
Thanks Tony.

Well, hang on!

Okay....last time I measured the depth of the wheelwell,

this time I measured from the front to the rear of the wheelwell - 26-1/2"

Ya, you're right schutnik. Didn't read Tony's post slowly enough.
Yes, straight across 10" up

Don't know about the 74.5 GT, but my 79 roadster is 28" across.

heck, now I'm lost!

Maybe I measured in the wrong place. I measured from around where my bumper is on the front to about where the bottom of the door is, but the fender front side is flared, so the further you go down, the wider it gets. I'm sure you can get just about any measurement you want, if you try hard enough!

The PO stuck new panels on top of the old original body. I have the dog leg patch panel from Moss that go up 10" I need the measurment from that top point straight across to the rear of the wheelwell so I can fabricate the proper opening. The tire goes pretty close to the one on the pasenger side.

Oops... I measured the front wheel well... Lemme go again!

I get 27 1/2" across the widest part of the well. That's much lower than 10" up though, I think. About 10" up by my guesstimate is more like 22 1/2" across.

Again, though, this is a late model roadster, not a GT.

I think a photo is in order here....

This is the measurement I took:

It was 27 1/2".

That's where I got 26-1/2" but either is probably right based on where we measured...

That will work too if it is the same opening as the GT. I will just follow the curve of the patch panel.
Now, which of those measurments was this one?

Maybe the GT is different?

Hard to tell - we all measured "about" 10" up.....you could go with the fit at the "B" post & make the wheelwell fit - but, then, that says the "B" post is in correct place, or...

you could mimic the other side so the entire car 'looks' good
