Australia is an awfull big place. Where abouts will you be going?
The Great Ocean Road west of Melbourne is a fantastic drive. The Barrossa Valley, near Adelade or Hunter Valley near Sydney are pretty wine growing areas. The Whitsunday Islands off of Gladstone Qld are terriffic. A lot to see!

Humm... Can't think of any "car" related must-see's in Australia (some great drives though as mentioned in the earlier post).
I would strongly recommend reading the Bill Bryson book "A Sunburnt Country". This is as much a travel guide as a book about the Australian psyche. A great read and, as an Australian myself, I think it really captures the place and the people well.
Melbourne I think is my favorite city – trams, great pubs and restaurants, neat architecture. Sydney has the Harbor, the Powerhouse Museum, and Bondi Beach. Brisbane (where I grew up) has the riverside park, a nice compact down-town, and great weather. My favorite beach town is Noosa, which is about 2 hrs north of Brisbane. Cairns and Darwin (in the far north) are worth seeing – but not in the (Australian) summer. Hot, subject to cyclones, and the water is full of box jellyfish – so you cannot swim.
BTW – Australians love telling you about all the things that can sting/bite/eat you, and the painful death that results. Just humor them – you really have to go looking for these beasts and they certainly will not be falling out of the trees on you as Australians would have you believe.
Above all – relax and have fun! (Someone once pointed out to me the difference between Australians and Americans. Americans spend the weekend talking about their work week, Australians spend the work week talking about the weekend!)

I have a friend in Australia who is on forums that I belong to on American Open Wheel Racing History, Model Car building, and HO slot cars, and he free-lances as an auto-racing photographer and journalist. If you're a car nut, & going to Oz, you must get to Bathurst, the greatest Motor Race track in the world.
Its about 132 miles west of Sydney, the largest city in Oz.
The track is a public tourist road, when not shut for racing, so you can drive around it, but only at 60Km, 35 MPH.
The drive out there is through some scenic coastal mountains, although you may find them more like hills. It is a good weekend trip, but can be done in a day, with out any trouble.
If you're in Sydney, on a saturday, get out on a Manly ferry trip. Its a pretty impressive harbour, & there will be literally thousands of yachts, & sail boats racing, & an equal number of hot water boats as well. Its quite a sight between midday, & 4 PM.
The Great Barrier Reef is well worth seeing, along the coast of north Queensland, but as its 600, to 1,000 miles from a major city, requires some time to get there.
If you like horses, come & see me. Don't worry if you've never ridden a horse, I've got some who've never been ridden, so they should suit you.

Got to agree about Bathurst but if you want to go to watch the racing then you've just missed it. There is also Philip Island down by Melbourne. Along with the F1 track in Belgium I think that this is one of the great tracks of the world. (and I'm a Kiwi)Hasbeen said:
