A friend just bought a Sprite and the engine runs well but the transmission does not shift out of gear. He has not driven the car yet. Could you give some advice as to what to check on the transmission?

Jerry,

When this happened to my Midget it was because 1st gear went back to far and ended up catching on the detents. I couldn't get the car out of 1st. Call Dick Luening at MG Limited and ask his advice. He got the car out of 1st in about 5 minutes through the drain plug opening and I made it back on track for the race in the afternoon.

He works mainly on MGBs now, but used to rebuild Spridgets as well.
