Austin Healey BJ8 dash pad removal

Evenin' boys,

I need a bit of direction on one of my winter projects that doesn't involve a snowblower or jumper cables. I noticed a small tear on the underside of my BJ8 dash pad.
I looked through pages of info under search topics, and while I did find a lot of great stuff that I didn't know, I couldn't find much on how to remove the dash pad.

Hopefully it's a simple job, because I don't want my wife chafing her knuckles like she does when she's changing my oil.

Hi Dave,

You've got a good sense of humor.
You'll find two metal bendable tabs underside each corner of the dash pad. Bend those tabs down.
Remove the two screws that hold the dash mirror in place.

The dash pad should now be removable.
Push up on the front and pull out.

If you find you're having trouble removing it, then ask your wife to do it and watch how easy she does it.

Thanks so much Roger. That sounds easy enough, so that even I can't screw it up (although it's still early).

My wife thanks you. She's been too busy re-shingling the roof to finish up washing and waxing the toys. You just can't get decent help anymore....

Dave, You can screw job this up real easy. I knew a guy who once removed his windshield because he thought it best to do it that way instead of bending the two tabs straight down.

Putting it back in is the pard part. There are three or four plastic pins sticking out from the bottom of the pad near the windsheild that slide into holes in the top of the scuttle. The trouble is, you can's really see if they are lining up with the holes when you reinstall it. You have to do it by feel.
 
Thanks to Patrick and Bill for your input. Roger made it sound just too darn easy. OK for him. He's the CEO at the Institute for Global Engineering Advancement. Am I going to have to up my medication, again, to do this right?

Bill - I'm going to let you have first go at this - let me know what time your flight gets in here, and I'll pick you up at the airport. Bring earmuffs.

I'm mostly deaf due to years of driving with the top down in cars that have illegal exhaust systems. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Call me when you are ready to reinstall. I'll come down and do my best to line it up right, but then break at least one of the plastic pins trying to force the pad into place.
