I am thinking of switching to the later model master cylinders set-up. I have the later wheel cylinders and disk brake conversions already. I just need to know what all I need for the master set-up.

I know that I will need a new pedal box. Will the new later pedal box fit in my BE?

Will the pedals that I have work? Are they the same?

Will all of this fit under the hood?

Anyone have pics?

Why change all, the old type MC can be modified to work just fine. Should think that would be cheeper as well.

Probably is. I had it re-sleeved to match the later system brakes that I am using. I'm just getting sick of running inot leaking problems and such!! I like the idea of a separate system running the clutch and brakes.
Dunno. Just thinking and taking notes right now. Then talk to Tony to see if he has the stuff I need.

???

I'm pretty sure you need the pedal box from the later cars -- it is not quite the same size/shape, so you wind up cutting the opening a bit. I can understand the benefits, but personally chose to use a re-sleeved MC for my disc conversion.

Where is your leak? At the MC piston?

I had the mc resleeved for the later stuff as well. The leak is at mc. It is at the cap and the top plate. I just hate having the mc painted and then having fluid leak all over it!! Not to mention this bleeding issue that everyone else has. The pita is that the last time I bled the clutch, there were no problems at all! I think I will have to try the disconnect the slave and let hang technique.

I personally like those re-sleeved cylinders, though I am putting a later mc system on my car. The hole gets cut a bit larger:

Then a metal plate covers the old hole.

Note that mine is using a single brake master cylinder. The double system will have pressure pipes which interfere with the wiper motor and the motor will have to be moved a half inch to the right (towards the transmission).

Cap leak and top plate leak are an easy fix.

Take em off and sand em smooth on a peice of glass with sand paper, start with 200 and go to 350 till both the cap base part and the flat part on the bottom are very flat. You can see where the sandpaper is not hiting easly enough.

New gasket, make your own, and new o ring from auto such.

Bingo, cheep, and it will not leak. Read my lips, It will not leak.

Are you saying it will not leak?
I hear ya Jack.
I will try and work with what I got and maybe look into the other stuff later.

I guess the car is coming to a close finish. Just ordered a referbished grill yesterday. Wow, didn't think it was going to happen this soon.

I guess it is almost time to buy a ring for my gal soon too. Shwooo, expenses. And for a poor old teacher too.

I want to see pics Barry.

Barry you could try painting with por-15. I sandblasted my pedal box on my 71 and the masters and then painted all with black por-15 from a pint can. It shines great and is tough to scratch up and brake fluid doesn't seem to harm it like regular black paint.

I changed mine to a dual master with separate clutch. You have to enlarge the opening. I don't plan on selling it , so originality is not a problem. After some harrowing experiences with single master failure, I really like the idea of a dual circuit master.

The things I changed: Brake union, 4 way with a proportioning valve (ck ebay). New brake pipe set for a late model sprite. I got the copper nickel. Pedal box complete, again check ebay. You will need to move the wiper motor, closer to the heater box, if you have one. I ran short angle iron pieces under where the pedal box attaches for stiffening and support, then threaded them for attachment of the bolts.

I also converted the whole system, since it was new, to dot 5 synthetic. It seems people really like it, or hate it. I like it because the car sits for extended periods, and it doesn't eat paint. I also like the purple color in the plastic reservoir.
