TR4/4A Attaching badges without using a badge bar

While looking for a way to attach my Triumph Sports Owners Association badge to my TR4 that lacks a badge bar, I found a photograph of a TR4A having badges mounted just above the bumper with no bar visible. Does anyone know how this was done and if the method would work on a TR4?

I attached a badge directly to the grille of my TR4 - on the left in this photo:

In fact - it is the same as one of the badges in the car you pictured. As I recall, I cut a rubber (inner tube) circle to fit behind the badge to protect the aluminum grille.
