I've never done this before, so here's the plan I think I'm going to use to assemble my rear hubs. This is part of my disc brake conversion, using the later style brake backing plate (already installed).
Please chime in with corrections.

1. Grease and tap in the bearings -- glob of grease in the hand, slap the bearing into the grease to fill it up. Bearings are not handed or sided, so they go in as far as they can go. Tap them in with a brass drift and hammer, lightly tapping around the outer race until the bearing is seated.
2. Tap in the studs.
3. Press the hubs back onto the axle, and install the o-ring -- use some grease on the axle tube and on the inside of the bearing (same grease as used to fill the bearing).
4. Put on the washer and nut, remembering that one of the nuts is reverse thread.
5. Install paper gasket and axles, put in the single screw -- gasket, then slide in the axle, then the screw to retain the axle.
6. Turn down the brake drums 1/8” on the edges -- necessary for the later style backing plates on the bugeye axle housing so that they won't rub on the backing plate.
7. Install brake drums and attach the 2 small retaining screws.
