Ash on plugs

Hey, all - I just changed out my plugs and it seems like there's an awful lot of ash on the old ones. I use BP gas (cc discount) and the plugs are Bosch platinum. Anyone else notice this? No running problems - just curious.

Mine look kind of crummy too. Also Bosch platinum plus BP fuel (known as Arco on the west coast). I blame the reformulated gasoline.

Ash - as in hard grey/white stuff on the electrode. No soot or carbon at all.

Plugs may be too hot for the petrol formulation, or running lean.

Tweak the the carb/s just a tad to the Fat {rich} side till you see those plugs just barely going brown, then you will have one fine tune on that L.B.C. *Smile*
Dont get no better N that!
Black is too "Fat"

I also was thinking a lean condition. If so, it's probably not a good thing to let that go too long. Years ago, ignoring a very lean mixture too long cost me a burnt piston and, in turn, a scored cylinder wall in a B-18 Volvo. Not a pretty sight.... :frown:

So it only ran for another 250,000 miles then?

Sigh...I wish I could say that, but no. Too bad, really, but it happened at a time when I just could not afford or justify repair, nice as the car was otherwise. Now I wish I still had it and had fixed it!
