Tomorrow, the eleventh day of the eleventh month commemorates the end of WW1. Although it's termed "Veterans' Day" here in the USA, the significance of the day is to remember all those who died in "The War To End All Wars" and in each conflict since then.

So, at 11am stop what you're doing for a minute and keep them in your thoughts.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them".

- Laurence Binyon

My photos so far this year... These two taken just tonight...

POW/MIA flag will be up in an hour or so. Today is a somber one around here, plenty to remember.

I went to the Veteran's Day ceremony today in Lynchburg, VA. Very nicely done, with several distingushed vets giving brief speeches and the usual ceremonial tributes such as the overturned glass, roll call by representatives from each branch calling out a few names of local patriots killed in each war since WWI, and more.

Steve Bozeman, U.S.M.C. Vietnam Veteran and carrier fighter pilot (2 Distinguished Service Crosses!) was Master of Ceremonies. He flew 128 combat missions from carriers. The stories he could tell . . .

I wish there were more young people in these Vet's Day crowds. I guess most of them are working at 11am, but so am I and I alwyays take time to go.

Here in Canada, Remembrance Day (ie. Armistice Day) is generally considered to be a statutory holiday, when I lived in Ontario it wasn't a stat holiday as I recall, but here in Alberta it is... So many people do get the day off, so we see a mix of young and old at ceremonies...
