Arizona Roadrunner Motoring Tour

Here's an Arizona-based drive modeled after the famous Iron Bottom Tour that occurs each spring in Southern California.

If you are interested in an event that focuses on the joy of exploring 2-lane blacktops with like-minded enthusiasts driving the sort of cars we love to see on the road, then have a look at this:

https://www.geocities.com/arizona.roadrunner/

As noted, we will drive from Friday, October 3 to Sunday, October 5. Departure is near Tucson but the route will accomodate those in Phoenix, Wicky, Prescott, etc who wish to find the group en route.

No RSVP is needed or wanted, just show up ready to roll!

It finally 'spread' to Arizona because a couple of local guys decided it should.

The beauty of the concept is that it requires only basic planning and no cost to put in place.

A key point is to not assume any liability, hence no fees, no offical sponsor, no waivers etc. Even the website is done annonymously.

My commitment is that my wife and I will drive it even if we are the only 2 people there -- though from the initial local response I expect to have a bit of company.

Love the idea... maybe I found a new "project"

Just 2 months from now is the first annual Arizona Roadrunner Motoring Tour. This is a 3-day tour for Vintage British Motorcars on the 2-lane blacktops of Arizona.

Yes, you can go anywhere in AZ without setting tire on interstate if you study the maps a bit. Details can always be found here:

https://www.geocities.com/arizona.roadrunner/

Sadly, the tour that inspired the Roadrunner has itself made its last run:

https://www.bench-racing.com/html/no_frills.html

Safe and sane driving is the order of the day for us -- the demise of the grand-daddy of no-frills driving is a reminder of the importance of that principle.

No RSVP is required but you will want to make a room reservation for 2 nights in Flagstaff. Some will stay at Little America but many other choices are available.

Please read all the info on the website to assure you and your car are ready.

Hope to see some of you there.

Joe
