Just passing this on. We've been getting a lot of 775 calls, which we don't except, but the wife checked them out and discovered that they are a scam or fraud calls. So use caution if you get them. PJ

I use the NetTalk device and service (VOIP) for my home phone service. It works pretty good most of the time. You can opt to block certain phone numbers who call you. But they also have a new feature you can turn on called SPAM Call Filter. They have a database of known spam numbers (I suspect it's growing all the time) and if you get a call from a number in their spam database, and you have this feature on, NetTalk automatically re-directs the call to a "Robot" who sounds like a real person. The Spammer thinks they are talking to a real person, but it's really just a Robot who wastes the spammers time.

It's really funny. If you want to try a Demo, call: 402-702-DEMO(3366) and pretend you want to sell Siding for a home, or anything else. It will sound like you are talking to a real person, so go ahead and have fun having a conversation as if you were a telemarketer.

The answering machine works well as a filter. Most of the robo calls seem to drop as soon as the answering machine picks up.

I have been getting calls on my cell from an area code that I am expecting calls. When I answer there is a pause and then a voice says sorry for the that I was having a problem with my headset. "Hi I am Sue from *****" At that point I hang up and block the number.

We've been using NoMoRobo... which re-directs junk calls to a number in DC where they compile them. It eliminates nearly all the calls (because our phone will ring once and off it goes, forwarded to the free service).

Interesting thought about "blocking" numbers.

Most of the spammers use robo-calling, and fake their Caller ID.

So the number you "block" probably isn't the number really calling you.

One of my favorites, which I used to get by the dozens before I changed phone numbers and stopped entering my number into registration forms (online purchases, forums, etc.)

Caller ID: 000 000 0000

So far it works pretty good for us. Number of spam calls has dropped off a good deal.

Try calling the demo number I poser above - It will sound like you're talking to a real person (at lease at first)

Thanks for the tip about saying Yes.

I tend to be rude and just hang up as soon as they/it starts the Sorry...... script.

I use the NetTalk device and service (VOIP) for my home phone service. ...

My cell phone when hooked up to my WiFi hotspot makes (I think) VOIP calls. A few places that I call won't accept those kinds of calls and I have to go to a WiFi-free zone.

My favorite line is "does your mother know you do this for a living?" I once got a call-back that was being mean. I replied "think about your mother!"

If it's a number I don't recognize or think is suspect, I simply don't answer. It it's legitimate, they'll call back.

I did answer a couple recently; usual pause before the person spoke. And when she did, she said "Hello?" a couple times, and then in a cute, perky voice apologized and said she was "having trouble "with her phone. I responded, but she continued talking over me, so I'm pretty sure it was a recorded and scripted call. Exact same thing has happened a couple times; anyone else have one like that?

yes, I had almost the exact same experience. Very friendly, perky voice "having trouble with headset".
"Free trip to Disney, all inclusive!..yadayadayada". Didn't even come up for air while I said " I'd rather have a root canal", "just shoot me", yadayadayada "

pretty sure it was a robot with a perky voice.

It just occurred to me..........
even the scammers are eliminating American jobs........sad

Eliminating jobs? You knew I was going to post this ...

Yep - that Marie Dressler was quite a fashion statement!
