Are these seat frames worse than they look

I was digging through the junk pile in the Bugeye I went and got in Georgia.

I just wanted the Bonnet but I ended up with the complete shell. I found these seat frames and tossed them into the scrap metal pile,

Then I got second thoughts maybe I should not take them to the scrap yard. what do you think, sandbast paint cover.or toss

this is the bonnet I got, the white stuff is some chemicals I am already useing trying to get it preserved
 
I'd say they are as bad as they look.
 
Depends on how hard up you are for MK1 seats.
I started with worse than that, and my seats are great.
However there was much (much) work involved.

If the base frames are good (solid) and the connection points are solid enough to hold bolts to the bases then they can be used.
At least (if you have room) you could hold onto them to donate to someone who isn't picky and doesn't mind doing some work.

I used a steel wire brush on my angle grinder and then sprayed with rust converter and then sprayed with black rustoleum several times.

My seats are a thing of beauty with new foam and covers.
With the prices of decent frames being hundreds each yours would be very useful for someone.
 
Don't look any worse than Miss Agathas when I started. Had em sand blasted first.
 
I was thinking the same thing, once they are preped you cannot see the frames, the frame with the bottom hinges freely and is solid.

I think I will treat them with some rust converter and put them up in the attic for reserve in case I don't find any better ones
 
Great plan.
Looking on Ebay I see them going for crazy $$$ - in pretty good shape of course.
 
I would also vote for the rust inhibit/attic plan. Someone, somehwere may be very pleased to get them someday. I have thrown things away in the past, and a couple years later really wished I had them. Just think of all them guys who threw out old 3/4" bore dual master cylinders and original seatbelt hardware years ago..... :wall:
