I spotted this old, rusting out Brit car
on a back steet in historic Old San Juan city.
The car appears to be some type of MG.

The wheels took my attention. I have read about
early TR6 wheels being rosette. Are these TR6 rosette
wheels on the MG.?? Just curious to know.

Dale, those are called Rostyle wheel covers and were original to that car.

Taking an extra long hard look at your picture, that car is actually a 55 Chevy that has been living in Havana for the last 50 years.

Bill, I'm very disappointed in your evaluation of the picture that Tinster attached to his post. Any real car buff can clearly see from the clever method of securing the hood, that this is not a 55 Chevy, but rather a 57 Ford Fairlane, that has been shortened in the Havana Custom Street Rod & Cigar Shop.

Many of these cars were cleverly disguised to keep them from reappearing as taxi cabs, hence the shortening along with the chop and channel jobs. They were later exported to PR under the NAFTA agreements of 2003.

Actually, those are not wheel covers but the actual wheels. TR6's did use wheel covers but the MG and Rover wheels were not covers.

That is one abused car though. Sad.

Right you are. The dummy Rostyles were used on the TR250 and some early TR6s. Go figure, they would use a nicely styled wheel on an entry-level LBC and use the fake ones on the big boys.

Makes sense to me.

Hello Bill,

at the time Standard Triumph and MG and Rover were different car companies before big bad Leyland took over.

Are these wheels anything like the Rosetta Stone?
