General Tech Are These Cam Bearings OK?

The pics seem worse, but the bearings really do look nice and smooth. Only the first one has any kind of abrasion that I can feel, and even then only slightly. My records show that a new "S2 Cam" was installed by Ken Gillander less than 25,000 miles ago and I'm inclined to think the bearing were replace then.

What do you folks say. I'd sort of like to start reassembling over the Labor Day weekend, but if it's unwise I'll order new bearings and have them pressed in.

In addition to this question, I'm also wondering what the prior owner meant by saying that the pushrods were replaced with "chrome moly shortened pushrods." How can I tell if that's the fact. I'm replacing with a standard cam, and if that means I need all new pushrods, I guess I'll order them.

Thanks, and hopefully may cam bearing pics show up clearly

Please advise.

They look OK to me. Ideally, you would measure the clearance, but that's kind of tricky and takes special tools.

Shortened pushrods would be because the head was milled to increase compression. Easiest way to check is to assemble the motor and see if you can still adjust the valves. If the valve lash can be set to the spec for your cam (.010" for stock, probably more like .015" for the S2) without anything weird happening (like no threads left for the locknut), you're good to go. It's easy to pull the rocker shaft back off and change the pushrods if needed, so not much to lose by waiting until you've got the rest of it together.

If you are using the milled head then you would want to use those Push Rods to maintain the proper rocker arm geometry. It's a pretty minor issue actually if you have enough thread to adjust the valves. If using the milled head the stock length push rods would not be the best combination.
