My son has one on his 90 turbo Supra. He says he can tell the difference. Adds more pep and with an open exhaust it really allows it to breathe. At $25 that's actually not too bad (since the one for his supra goes for over $100)

It only makes a difference if your previous filter was too restrictive for the engine. Compared to factory air cans, a stock MGB engine will notice a small improvement. A hopped up MGB engine will notice a significant improvement. I don't have them in either of my Bs, but I've considered them in the past. I'm looking into ways to improve the stock filter cans so I can retain the original look though.

What about this, and just ditch the cans

Dave, that's exactly what I'm considering. I want to retain the original look, so I may cut open the bottom and install a thin mesh, then replace the inner elements with something better. That should increase breathing significantly. it would also be invisible to onlookers and these parts are in plentiful supply.

That's what I did - thanks to Hap!
It seems to make a difference on my engine.

Cap head 5/16-18 and are the K&N press on? Do you have a source Hap? I am not looking for the stock look on this B so better breathing is all I'd like.

I got mine at a place online for about $50 shipped.
You should countersink your holes in the original stacks & use the recessed bolts. The filters press on and then they have big clamps. The fit is just right. I'll look up that site and put it here in a minute.

Part Number (search for this): RU-4410

Site where I bought mine:

They still have free ground shipping on orders over $50.

Sweet Thanks. I might go that route.

You can usually generate a pretty good argument on almost any car nut forum regarding the K&N. Lots of knowledgeable people claim their butt dyno can tell the difference. Others, sometimes with real dynos to back them up say it's BS, and the only result will be a somewhat lighter wallet, more noise from the intake, and more schmutz in the engine because the way it passes more air is by having bigger holes in the filter material.
I had a K&N on a Porsche 911 and I can't say as I could tell any difference at all.
The best thing about them is there are lots of varieties to suit custom applications, and they look cool.
