Are Alfin rear drums that rare!!!

Don't know anything about the price, but yes, those are very rare - first I've seen on ebay anyway. I think Racestorations or someone else in the UK is making modern replicas with those style fins now.

240-280Z used the finned aluminium drums on the rear and uses the same bolt pattern as TR3-TR6 as well as many other cars. Just need to machine the lip off the drum and they will go right on. I did this on a TVR a couple years ago and dropped about 20 lbs of unsprung weight.

The Datsun drums only came in 9", don't fit earlier TRs with 10" drums unless you also change the backing plates, cylinders etc. The stud holes also have to be opened up to fit the solid axle TRs. And the fins run the other way, so they'll never be mistaken for factory Alfin drums.

$1500 seems a tad high to me, but a pair of 10" Stanpart Alfins did bring close to that a few years ago.

Al-Fin drums were original "high Speed Equipment" accessories from very early TR2 production. I think they were developed originally for the SP Speed model TR2's, of which only three examples were made including the Jabbeke high speed run car. ,

The drums came in both 10" (p/n 301590) and 9" versions (p/n 202267).

A NOS pair, perhaps from a long defunct S-T dealer's spare parts stock, would be exceptionally rare items. I could easily see a well heeled TR enthusiast snapping them up.

After Easter I plan to ebay a pair of ultra rare DU6 dual 1.75" SU carbies, as fitted to the Sabrina engines in the TR3S Le Mans cars, and Coventry Climax GP engines. Only 90 odd of these were ever made, so it will be interesting to see how they go.

The ebay drums are radial finned drums and are indeed as rare as the seller states. Not the same as the Datsun type drums which are relatively common and can still be purchased new.

They were apparently sold as aftermarket carbs as well. Friend of mine has a pair on his TR2. Rare certainly, but more than 90 pairs ever made.

These kind of drums are new manufactured and you can buy them new.

I have bought from the seller a few times and watched many of his auctions, he seems to be very knowledgable and honest about his auctions, he has (or had) an amazing stash of used and NOS parts, maybe he had or bought out a shop at one time, or just a lifetime enthusiast that acquired a lot of parts over the years.

Randall, I believe there were 3 x versions of the DU6 carbs and mine are the last model, as used on the Sabrina. Doubtless there were more than 90 of all models made.

I intended fitting them to the 3A, but the novelty wore off when I realised a big chunk had to be cut out of the inner guard to allow for suitable aircleaners.
