MGB Are 175 tires the widest that will fit onto a MGB??

Jerry -

If your friend's B has stock rims, 175 is the widest safe choice. Anything wider may risk rolling the sidewall while cornering. If he has aftermarket rims, it depends on rim width and offset.

They are stock rims. Thanks for the info. I found a good selection at Walmart, believe it or not. His tires were on the car when he bought it 16 years ago. I told him they were unsafe so he is finally going to replace them. I bet it will even ride better with new tires.

You do need to be careful with the rears -- that axle is not always really centered, so there may be a bit less room in one side or another. Only really an issue if you're going wider or with non-stock wheels.

I'm running 175/70R14 on Rostyle stock wheels on my GT. Even cheap new tires will ride pretty nicely.
