TR2/3/3A Apron letters "TRIUMPH"

I am installing as much as I can on the apron pror to mounting it. I got the emblem on (purdy!). Got out the single letters for the Triumph logo but find the holes in my apron do not match the studs on the letters. My holes are horizontal but the studs on the letters are at an angle. (sigh) Anyone elsse run into this problem? What did you do about it?
Your thoughts and or comments greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Tinkerman

There are 2 versions of letters, ribbed and smooth. The ribbed are for pre-60k cars, the smooth for post-60k cars (tho the change may not have been consistent). One has letters with varied sloped/distance posts, the other with horizontal posts. Sounds like you've got the wrong letters for that apron. -You could modify the apron, but you will find the old holes cannot be covered by the (wrong) letters. So, unless you want to repaint the apron, you need to settle for the other style letters. It's also almost impossible to arrange the letters in a different order. And if you measure, you will see the distances between the letters is not the same.

Have you got ribbed letters or smooth chrome ones. As Jer comments. Ribbed are for early bonnets. Smooth for later ones. If you saw my post, guess who has a box full of letters.

It looks like I have an early 3A. I got some Moss ribbed letters and they fit the holes perfectly so on they go. Re-drilling is not an option, for me anyway.
Thanks for the input and besides it is the start of the football seasone. .....Gimme a T.....

Cheers, Dick
