Anyone want a Datsun 5-sp.?

Hello everyone,

I came across a nice '81 Datsun 210 and was wondering if anyone here as interested in the 5-speed transmission. I can't verify it's condition (not running), but it does shift into all 5 gears and reverse and looks clean (although the engine is oily from a leaky valve cover).

I'm open to offers before listing on eBay (do not want to do that.....hate the fees!). I might be interested in a trade for some parts needed for my Bugeye. PM me if interested.

Thanks,

Mike

The last one I saw on ebay went for way more than I can afford - gotta get a bunch of kids "back to school" right now. Think it's expensive with one or two? Try 5 or 6.

That being said, if you want to put it on a bus to my house I'll send you the address...

How much would you want for it? I'm having trans woes right now and this might be cheaper than dumping a ton of cash in mine.

I'm thinking seriously about doing this conversion after driving my car cross state last weekend. I was sitting at 5k rpm the whole day, and it wasn't very pleasant. Overdrive would have been much welcome.

The parts from the conversion folks are about 700 bucks in addition to the 210 transmission cost. So I'm out of the running for the time being. That and I don't have a cherry picker to get the engine/transmission out as a unit so I can install their funky adapter plate with the oil seal.

hmmm... I have the Nissan 1500 motor already...

is this thing the same length as the 4 speed datsun tranny?

It should be, but I don't know for sure. Might be a good question for the 1200 forum! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The good news for you is that it will bolt right up to the engine.....no need for a kit!

As far as being used in a TR6......I have no clue. I only know about their use in Spridgets.

The price, hmmmm......I'm not looking to get rich off of it, just to make enough to get a new steering rack and some new/rebuilt front shocks (or at least most of the money for these things).

I was thinking $300 + shipping. These trannys are very light, so shipping is not as bad as you might think (probably $30-$40 tops).

LMK if that sounds fair to you guys who are interested.

BTW Rick.....did you evr get the carb issue resolved on 'frank'? I haven't been following things as closely as I did a few months ago. I got a job working the graveyard shift and have been a zombie ever since! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Just curious.

Heh - it ran so much better after bolting it down to the manifold that I just haven't thought about it much. I will have to eventually do something, but I have the luxury of waiting until the perfect deal comes along.

BTW that's a very fair - even generous - price.
Someone should snap it up.

The wife would perform some kind of nocturnal surgical procedure on me if I were to spend much on a car right now.
Too many kids in school. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

I shipped one recently, around $40 via UPS. Right around 50lbs.

Luke, have you tried a taller rear end? I think the '66 still had the 4.22 rear, and a 3.90 should make a difference (I've got one to go into the Tunebug this winter, and I'm staying with the 4-speed).

$300+$700= too much for me. But if anyone does this swap and has a rib case trans to unload, let me know.

No, not in a 6, perhaps a spridget, but it is too small, light, for a 6. The later, larger Aisin family trannies, found in the Jeeps, Toyotas, S-10's are what is used in the 6's

That's good info to know....thanks!

Dan,

You should PM BillM. I think he can hook you up with the conversion parts for much less than Rivergates $700.

Dan
I have adapter kits for $100.00 but it will cost about $250.00 plus Datsun trans, etc to complete the conversion.
(etc= Datsun210 starter,shifter,slave cyl and ringgear)

Bill

Mike -

You have a private message.

sent you a pm regarding the tranny.

What kind of parts are you looking for. Ive got lots of parts and or cash!

If you use Paul Asgeirsson's kit, you use the Sprite flywheel/ring gear/starter/1275 slave. Saves money and junkyard trips.

Glen Byrns

Excellent, good deal.
