I am looking at some home automation utilizing z-wave technology.
Which hub is the best?
What company offers the best software?
Which z-wave forums should I join to get the right advice?
As a newbie I'm looking for help learning this technology.

......I don't care to have my refrigerator talk to my living room lights, and get updates on the milk temperature
Neither do I; but my plan is to have Mr. Toilet (or other leak sources) communicate with the water shut off valve to minimize potential water damage.
I do know that the manufacturers have forums but I'm looking for more of a "user" forum.
Doesn't anyone want to know if their LBC turns the garage lights back on after you leave?

Haven't had a need to do any install of Z-wave tech (yet) but have a client who has set up his retail shop for accessing the surveillance cameras with his cellphone or computers..

My gut reaction is to leave my hardwired systems in place and deny access from "outside". Not a fan of "The Internet of Things" at all.

That was my first thought doc. I was going to hard wire approx six sensors down to the basement main shut off valve. The wireless z-wave makes it a lot easier than running wires throughout the house, and that's the main reason I'm considering it.

Understood. But... ya only gotta run 'em once, IYSWIM.
