Anyone need a 5-speed trans? [NFI]

The Z 5-speed is a fabulous gearbox.
If only it would fit in our Spridgets!!

It will, just about as good as an overdrive. I found a guy here that has a clapped out 210 under the carport w/ better stuff rusting in the yard. he said he had an extra 5 speed he would sell for $150. Upon closer inspection it was the 200sx box. From what I read it's the Z box for the little cars. I wonder if I can put that one in for him w/o modifications and buy the 60 from him?

The 200sx used the L 4cylinder engine. Great engine that won a lot of races for datsun in trans am 510's. The Z engine is just the L series with 2 more cylinders tacked on. The 5 speed Z box will bolt right up to the 4 cylinder engine.

That is correct, if it came off of a L20. Datsun did make a version of that box that has the A15 bell housing pattern ( the shorter 200sx one). That's what this guy has as a spare. I can't remember the designation.

Kelleysguy: I don't believe athe A engine ever went into the 200SX and I'm quite sure that any Z five speed will bolt up to a L engine. Or don't I understand the queation????
I've got a 620 Datsun pickup that I put a Z 5 speed into and have a extra Z 5 speed on my shop floor.

Bill understood what I meant. What I was trying to say was what the guy had was the 200 trans (gut and tailshaft wise) with the A series bellhousing. I couldn't remember the designation or what it came out of. I wasn't saying the A was put in the 200, rather the 200 trans was put behind an A.

The question was will a B210 trans fit the tunnel of a 210?

OK, seems a 63 series, which it sounds like what you have, can be made to fit but requires some mods.
This was discussed not that long ago and I don't remember where that thread ended up.

Kurt.

Whoops, rough day yesterday, The 63 series ought to fit in a 210 easily. Theres lots of room. Not sure of the driveshaft length but I believe there would be no problem. Just pulled 2 210 5 speeds (sorry guys, I'm keeping them for now).

Kurt.

Kurt, are you talking about a thread putting a 63 in a Spridget? I didn't see that and can't find it. Anyone here?

Nevermind, I found it. Too much choppy choppy.

I don't know if a B210 trans will fit in a 210 but I just measured both and the -63 (B210) trans is 1/8" longer than the -60 (210) and the shifter is 1/4" further back.
Only real issue is that the B210 trans mount is about 2" further back than the 210 one and that makes the install in a Spridget a bit more difficult (but still possible).
Also the B210 trans uses a different driveshaft adapter than the 210 does (same as a 510 I think)
The B210 trans WILL fit in the Spridget!

Heh - well Bill, now you have to do it.
Just to prove it works after all.
Man, there are a bunch of B210's around...

May be a bunch of B210's around, Rick, but the 63 5 speed was only in the "nifty fifty" fuel economy model. All the B210's I've come across have 4 speed's.
