Mrs JP and I will be there at the end of the month for a conference. I might have some free time, for car related viewing, but, will also be a part of a group looking for interesting places to eat. We will be staying at the Peabody so proximity would be helpful as not everyone will have access to cars.

thoughts? suggestions?

Rendezvous Restaurant (barbecue) is one that comes to mind. Also BB King's Blues Club for food and music/dancing.

If he doesn't chime in, get in touch with BCF member Joe Reed, who lives nearby.

Good luck - I've heard (& read) that there's a lot
of crime in Memphis.
I have heard this also - fortunately we are staying in a safe(r) area

Stay safe. It's sad to hear/read stuff like that.
True but it has ever been thus. Every city has less safe areas. Every destination has places you don't go after dark. Every community has bars that you don't go into on your own - and always have had. It amazes me how many people decide that they aren't going to pack common sense when they go travel and assume they will be as welcome or as safe as they are at home.

Case in point. It seems that every year a Canadian is killed while on vacation in Mexico. Certainly there has been more and more drug cartel violence even in resort communities - BUT most of the time they were where they shouldn't have been or doing something they shouldn't have been doing. Sad for sure, but, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I have been saddened to hear that Memphis is right up there with the "big boys" in criminal activity, especially violence. I was born there (many years ago of course) and through my early years spent quite a bit of time there, relatives and friends. It was a beautiful city but It has been many years since I was there. You are certainly seeing one of the highlights though in the Peabody. I never stayed there but have had dinner there. Try to make Beal Street but maybe before dark.

I've live in Memphis 45 years now. Lots of gun play on Beale St. after dark. Not much policing on Beale--too dangerous even for them.

Always liked this song:

When I was walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel?

They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer
But boy you've got a prayer in Memphis
