I am thinking about retiring and can't deal with Seattle's weather.
Medford Oregon is not too far from the kids, etc.
Has anyone here ever lived there or know how it is (particularly the weather)?
BillM

Bill, I'd do Bend if your gonna go to Or.
Medford isn't to bad gets hot at times and prolly a little warmer and surely is drier than the Jet City
I'm with you on the weather.
I'm about to go Postal!

My sister-in-law and her husband live in the area. He is actually from Medford, born and reared, but they now live over in Jacksonville. Medford has grown into a rather large city, with all the issues a large city has. I personally would live in the outskirts or in a scenic city like Jacksonville, just a few miles up the road. Or better yet, Ashland, but property there has gotten pretty pricey. Medford has the unfortunate distinction of being the epicenter for the country's Meth epidemic. Sometimes referred to as "Meth-ford." (If any of ya'll are from there, don't throw stones at me.)

Four seasons, pretty country, great orchards (but the price of real estate has caused these to be bought up for development).

I would live there in a heartbeat, but again, in the smaller burgs.

Phoenix or Talent, between Ashland and Medford, that area does get a fair amount of snow (wife's cousin lives in Phoenix or Talent), main airport is Medford, so you gota drive there to fly out, AMTRAK in Eugene.
Not-my-governor and cohorts about getting me thinking of doing it, after living in this house for 35+ years.
Watch Cable News weather, it will give you comparisons daily on here and there.

Interesting, Phoenix and Talent both were half-horse trailer park communities about 25 years ago. The influx of Californians with lots of real estate money in their pockets got these communities discovered and the price of property ski-rocketed. Ashland is the home of the one of the finest Shakespearean theaters in the country (if not the world), a good university (my son got his undergrad and masters degrees there), Mt. Ashland (a decent ski resort that the city or county used to own, may still), Lithia spring water (good to drink, if you can hold it down, cures....something), lots of tourism, retired rich hippies, organic is the word. I like Ashland. If you live there, owning a Subaru is imperative. Talent or Phoenix, or even Jacksonville may be more reasonable as far as affordable housing. All are minutes away from Medford, if you must go to a mall or big box store.

How do like all that information coming from someone in the depths of Bayou Country, South Louisiana?

Where I live is awful, tell your friends, it's really really bad. you don't even want to visit, really. --elrey

Hmmmm, I wonder why they refer to it as San Luis Obispo, The Happiest Place in America. Must be really, really bad.

Guess you don't want any Tired, Poor, and Huddled Masses, eh?

You could always try Franklin, Louisiana, really the home of tired, poor and huddled people.

It's where Sno-Cats are made.

Think we scared him off.
He moving to Anchorage

Actually I want to move home to San Diego (or Lancaster or San Bernadino) but my wife doesn't like the heat and crowds of Socal so we are trying to compromise.
This is a lot of info (thanks to all) and even info from the bayou is welcome  .
We are still looking at several places and it sounds like there are folks here on the forum who have answers!
Keep the info coming!
Thanks
BillM

Lancaster.....had several relatives there, spent a bit of time there growing up on long visits. The LA Gang problem moved up 15 or so years ago, they moved out. Only one left is in the Tehachapi.
Tehachapi is nice....but so is the Owen's Valley. Went to High School in Bishop.

Medford USED to be a great community - until the Southern Califorians
moved in,bought up the small businesses.
I've been going there since the early '70's.Too much traffic now.

No Doug- you have it wrong!
Medford used to be great until the easterners swarmed into Socal, destroyed it and continued up the coast and hit Medford (and parts beyond)!!
Those are NOT Californians, not by ANY stretch of the imagination!
