Anyone have advice about Espirit?

I am thinking of getting an Espirit. Probably late-80's, maybe 1990, from what I have read so far. No particular car in mind right now, but since I really have no experience whatever with Lotus, I'm trying to bone up a bit beforehand.

I have a Lotus 'Buying Guide' (Motorbooks) on the way to me, but if there are any forum members who have first hand experience with Espirit and/or any general advice about what models are best, what to look out for, etc. I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks.

The Esprit went thru some fairly radical changes in its 'evolution'. The Motorbooks guide will define those. Pick one to meet/match your willingness as to the "Responsibility of Ownership" paradigm. IOW, what you're likely willing to learn about to keep it running properly. If you're good at keeping the Spit' on the road, the Lotus will be an easy transition!

I also have Jeremy Walton's book on Espirit: 'The Complete Story'. Pretty interesting evolution for sure. I have aways liked this car, but I especially like the softer lines of the late-80's, hence the thinking about 88-91 vintage.

I'm pretty handy with the Spitfire, but I'm not inclined to do as much on the Lotus myself. Seems an order of magnitude more sophisticated than what I'm used to. So I'm looking for something pretty well maintained. No doubt I will dig in and get knowledgeable about maintenance, etc, but I plan look to pro's for service.

Thanks. If/when I find something I will post and ask.

Thanks Vance. Minicooper is also very cool. I am 'of an age', as they say, that I can remember them well when new. Austin used to have pretty big dealerships up here in the 60's.

Thanks.... As you can see I also Enjoy Mini's..The Handling on the Esprit is wonderful..I think you are looking at Turbo models which ofcourse have much better power..ENJOY
