Wedge Anyone Ever Converted a FI TR7 to Carbs?

Hey guys, I give up!! I cannot get the fuel injected 1980 TR7 to run reliably, so I want to convert it to carbs...

The way I see it, it shouldn't be that hard - LOL

I can go to twin Strombergs, SU's, or even a Weber $$$$ setup.

Someone even suggested an early single Stromberg carb and manifold for simplicity's sake.

Any ideas? Someone did tell me that although they look the same, there are actually several different types of carburetor manifolds, all with different water passages, etc.

I need help! Any and all replies are greatly appreciated.

(Plus if you want any fuel injection components, let me know!)

Thanks!!

Before you exchange your current misery for one greater --I'd take a run at your injection system.

I have both PI and Stroms and can say it is easier to fix PI than mess with Stroms. And much cheaper than boltig on webbers.

Almost all PI problems are electrical, meaning an hour spent with steel wool, dielectric grease and a soldering gun will likely get you going.

What have you done this far in troubleshooting?
What are the symptoms?

Add to this that PI is much much smoother ....

Yes, most people try to go from carbs to FI. Especially if you still have to smog the beastie. Try to spend some more time troubleshooting and see what turns up.

I also have a FI car. I had some serious problems with it when I first got it 3 years ago, but got them sorted out and the car is now very reliable. I actually had 2 problems, one fuel related, and one ignition related (but the symptoms were almost identical to the fuel problem). If you post up what symptoms you're having, I'm pretty sure we can help you figure it out and get it running right. I hang out on another forum that's purely TR7, and you should read the horror stories people have with getting their carbed cars to run right and keep running right. Once the FI is right, you shouldn't need to mess with it again.

you'll need a newer intake manifold or you will have to replace the water pump cover. the newer heads route the water differently to the manifold and heater core. i am converting a newer fi engine to put in an older car. i am using down draft webers.

Hope I'm not too out of line for suggesting it, but you might want to consider a little more radical change and going for the V8 conversion. The subframes are available for ~$800 and the engines (Rover 3.5, Buick/Olds 215) are still relatively available. $2000 should get you there. Lots of work, but wait till you get behind the wheel for the first time and turn the key. Toto, something tells me we're not in Kansas anymore.
Either way you go, good luck and have fun.
