We are in good shape as far as conditions go to watch Endeavor climb out of the soup & glue. What a spectacular thing! Even from here a night shuttle launch is about the most impressive sight on-planet. The long term future of humanity rests on these bold attempts. Those who don't appreciate or understand that are condemning their progeny to extinction.

...sure glad we don't have kids.

Would love to see a night-time launch someday.

Guess it's "Ho-hum" to most folks, sadly... :frown:

Doc

How do you find out when the launches are?
Is there a website, or is it published locally for you?
I would drive to Florida, just to once see this happen!

Dave :yesnod:

P.S. Mickey, I could pick you up on the way, and I'm serious!

OH YEAH! BCF ROAD TRIP!!

EGAD!! This somehow appeals.... but from here we have a somewhat shielded view, can see the thing rise after about twenty seconds into the launch peering theough treetops until it goes downrange.

We (a few neighbors and us) run outdoors in our nightclothes and cheer, jump up and down, say "HI!" to one-another and get back indoors to watch the rest on NASA TV.

www.nasa.gov is the website for the schedules, Dave. C'mon down! 25 minutes to get here. Ya gotta be ~QUICK~!!!

AWWW RATS! Someone left the door ajar...

Deem'd a reasonable risk, go for launch.... less than eight minutes.

Doc;
I hope you got a big couch, 'cause Annie said I can go!!
I really would love to see one take off, and , besides, I'd get to meet you and the missus.
We may have to arrange this in the future.

Dave

P.S. Mickey, if I'm goin' so are you. Be prepared!

I was watching it - great shots...then, at 45 seconds before launch we lost our satellite due to heavy rain & thunderstorms!

I just watched on the link the Doc gave me.
That is sooooo Coooolllll!

I really have to see this in person.
Do I sound obsessed?

Dave

I did that last February. Priceless to see. Got nice and close too. Even a Delta rocket launch at night is awesome, because you can get closer and feel the thing rumble in yer bones.

Here's what it looked like from my usual viewing spot (unless I stand out in the front yard).

Scott,

That photo is simply amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Scott, you have exactly a 180* view of it from me!!! What a nice clear evening it was last night to watch it by!!

We had too much cloud cover for seeing the whole trajectory. Just caught a glimpse of it this time. But the interested neighbors were out anyway. Pal Mike three doors down had chairs out, binoculars in-hand... at least we got to view it on TV as it happened. We have small TV's in both our garages, beer in fridge. Small "launch party" ensued.

Oh, Mike is an ex-Marine BTW. Did a stint "in th' Nam". We get on well.

That's awesome!
We were at Kennedy Space Center at the end of Sept. and we were able to see both Shuttles on their launch pads, They said they were going to launch in Oct. But I guess they kept getting postponed.

I would also love to see a launch live, But I dont think I could plan a trip around it.

I've got to get down there and see a launch someday. It must be awesome.

Thanks for the photos, guys.
