Anyone else notice this "Special 100S" on E-bay?

I saw it too, and wondered the same. Certainly looks like it's been sitting for a long time.

Re: Anyone else notice this "Special 100S" on E-ba

I guess it's a "special 100S" because it has no 100S parts.

Re: Anyone else notice this "Special 100S" on E-ba

looks convincing, but....
It would be impossible to say for sure, there was never any set list of parts that made a "100S". and the factory never kept any records. Some cars that were sold as a "true 100S" had nothing more than a louvered bonnett. Others had a big list, including a hotter cam, bigger carbs, and a special distributor.
Even if it's not a true "s" it seems to be very well documented.

The specs for a true 100S are well documented. There are dozens of unique features. I think that all of the original 50 or so limited production cars have been accounted for & documented. A true 100S can bring six figure prices.

Your statement rings much truer with the "100M spec cars", of which many were owner converted after the fact. Even so, the true original 100M production cars were relatively few, around 640, & are well documented. Only the factory documented cars are considered to be 100M cars. The rest of the conversions can be considered as 100 LeMans cars to one degree or another.

One of the unique features of these cars used by the late Geoff in certifying some cars, was the body number inscribed on the backside of the brightwork trim just like the seller indicates this car has. --Fwiw---Keoke

You guys got me again. I gotta start double checking my facts before I post anything late at night. I was thinking "100M" sorry for the mis-information.
If I kept my fingers quiet and read more I might learn somthing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It seems legit for what he says it is. It sounds like a car I would be prooud to have in my garage.

Yes, he is being quite clear in his description about what it is and what it isn't. Cool car ... apparently lots of race history. The only strange part is the registration as a "Special 100S" but it was probably just the way the owner filled out the DMV form and it stuck.

Cheers,
John

Well it seems to be a race car, and to have loads of documentation and loads of spare parts (all original). Bidding's been pretty decent, I wonder what the reserve is?

Any guesses as to what a care like this is worth?

Well ZBlu,I guess you car is not an element in [The Unique Set of 100 S Cars]of course I would have called Geoff to be sure.--Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

I believe that almost all BN1 thru early BN4 cars had the body number stamped on the cockpit surround pieces as well as in several other places such as hood, trunk lid, & front splash apron. This was to make sure that the early hand fitted parts didn't get mixed up during final assembly.
