can anybody tell me why a package I ordered was shipped from Memphis on the 6th and arrived in the sort facility in Florida on the 8th en route to Toronto. Does it make any sense to go south before going north or is Florida an international shipping facility.

Maybe it went to zip code 10921 :rolleye:

Might have to do with the fact it is going out of the country

Makes a lot of sense since the post office is closing sorting facilities to save money.

I can send a package to a town 15 air miles away and trace it on a journey of 90 air miles in completely opposite directions before it reaches its destination.

How was it sent? Priority? Parcel Post? A lot depends on how it's sent as to where it's sent. Priority would be put on a plane (ironically a FedEx plane) and flown there. Parcel post or other cheaper methods might go to another office to be packed with other packages going north and placed on a truck, boat, or maybe even flown out. Some companies even have deals with other shipping companies to do this in order to get cheaper shipping rates. If I had your tracking # I could tell you more. BTW, as my avatar suggest, I DO work for the post office.

The fastest delivery I ever had was by UPS just recently. Ordered a new table saw from Sears 60 miles away with free shipping and it was supposed to take a week to deliver. On the second day at 4 PM, UPS dropped off the saw! That was last week. Had to be a fluke in the system, but it came in two days! It'll never happen again.:nonod: PJ
