For years we've used different gauge thicknesses of strap steel. Even Home Depot now carries some. Same concept, a LOT less cash outlay. Not that I'm against buying those but we just don't do enough panel repair to justify it. They're probably great tools as time savers for a commercial or custom shop but DIY folks can get the same result with 24" pieces of differing thickness strap stock. And if you "forget" to clean it, replace it. $150 will buy a bunch of stock.

And "dollar stores" usually have plastic "yard sticks" too. JMHO.

Fancy tool, simple concept. Concrete workers probably used the same concept, a 2 x 4 to screed your shop floor. For bondo, I've used 1/8 inch plywood (door skins) cut into strips with a flat planed edge and plastic paint trim guides that come 24 inches for a few bucks. You can find 36 inch guides also but you have to look a bit more.

I've used these. Painters straight edge. Cheap and flexible and can be bought almost anywhere. Just make sure you clean the blade after use. PJ
