and if so what is your opinion on odv disease

Two in the house here. What are your concerns etc
Dr Paul

how quick is the recovery time and and will it reoccur. Scary to watch .

Ok, I was about to say I'm a vet (24 years in the military), but after Googling ODV, I figured you're talking about the doggie doctor kind of vet and not the first thing that popped into my mind!

I'm confused, ODV is a Narcotics drug test kit used by law enforcement. What is the disease? PJ

It's also "Old Dog Vestibular" disease - that why he asked if there are any vets in the house!

That is correct. Look for signs of recovery in 72 hrs. Supportive care ( fluids, anti-nausea drugs) and time. Usually a diagnosis is made by exclusion, ie recovery over time. I assume the veterinarian has done a complete exam and Blood work. If inner ear infection is suspected, he should be on antibiotics. U of Guelph for advanced diagnostics if your veterinarian feels it is appropriate. Leanne has seen a few, they are challenging because the symptoms can be caused by other diseases, but it seems your veterinarian has gone through those rule-outs and given you a course of action.

We are both AVC (UPEI) grads.

She had it last tuesday and seems to be recovering slowly , still a little wobbly at times. she didn't drink for 2 days or eat for 3. so I gave her water from a syringe and some chicken. She now gets up and goes to her bowls for water and food(chicken)(spoilt),also give her a 1/4 gravol twice a day. She sleeps a lot but does go out to void but hasn't had a bm yet. Head is still tilted to the side a little and it looks like she is giving you a quizical look. She is a Japanese Chin and is 15 in July this year and am hoping to keep her around for a while yet. My Vet also graduated from UPEI.although I don't know what year.

Thanks Guys the info much appreciated

Looks like you are on the correct coarse. We were in the first graduating class back in 1990. Give it time and keep up your excellent nursing care.
