i finally decided to relace the carpet in my 8? It is an ebay special carpet set which is what is in my 8 currently (just dry rotted and seemingly 20 years old). Is there anything to be aware of, anything not to screw up?

When removing the old carpet, be careful not to rip out any wires glued to the bottom of the old carpet. Come up with a good way of securing the drivers footwell carpet to the floor. Cheap carpet kits will move around and could bunch up under the pedals. Be prepared to clean up any rust you find around the floor plugs and behind the seats. Whenever I get the chance, I make new circles out of sheet metal and weld them in where the plugs were. After that, apply some seam sealer to clean it all up. You will need to remove the seats, center consul/shifter, kick panels and maybe the panel behind the seats. If your lucky and your car still has them, the seat belt holders and the black floor plates under the front of the seats next to the tunnel, and the plastic pieces near your shoulder that cover the folding top mechanism come out too.

Two sided carpet tape and a really sharp knife helped me along.

I have owned this car so long I have done the interior twice...... Latest version:

I received my carpeting, It looks like a good fit but boy does it feel cheap. It is so thin it is almost see thru.

I had some samples sent to me from some guy selling TR7/8 carpet kits on e-bay. I think he was from the east coast. Any way they were so cheap I threw them away as soon as I got them.
Does any one know of a reasonable carpet vender. Looks like the originals were heat formed. Is that correct?

I think there is only 1 or 2 venders still selling the formed sets. And they are obscure sellers

I've never used them... I considered using them but decided to get everything for my interior under one roof. I have read good things that others have posted from different sites but I have not used them.
