We have these to shut off our services, called a gate valve,
Good for one reason only and that is, they do not restricked the flow when they are open.
Bad news is they have a bad habbit of the rod when turned leaves the gate behind,
I have been cought a few times, turning the water off with this and then it not turning back on..

Yay!! (When I said to remove the valve, I mean the whole kit-n-caboodle, whatever a caboodle might be. Disconnect at the threads on the left side of the valve photograph in your post #19. Intent being, make sure the problem is not upstream of the valve assembly. Obviously not needed anymore!)

And what is an anti-siphon valve for??

Basically keeps a drop in water pressure (failed pump and/or pressure tank) from pulling dirty water up into the system. The one I have does that, plus keeping the water *inside* the house not outside, when the faucet is turned off. That way no danger of freezing and cracking.

And keeps the water inside your house when you turn it on. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Glad you got it solved.
