TR2/3/3A Any opinions on the TR3 currently on Ebay?

Opinion? Yeah, I'll be surprised to see an opening bid.

But then, I remember that TR4 that sold at Barrett-Jackson a few years ago for $92K!

Nice...but it doesn't do anything for me (but that's me; YMMV and all that).

Two things strike me:

1. Are there really shows that have Best Debuting Restoration over $100,000.00 classes?

2. Mileage: under 500 WHY? Not as much fun as you thought it would be for somewhere north of $100k?

starting bid is $65,000.
And there is a reserve even higher than that.

I sure would not have chosen a J-type OD. Yeah, sure, it might handle the power longer, but I can't believe that anyone who has experienced flipping the switch at redline in 2nd gear would ever want a J-type instead. Not to mention the extra frame & body work that I believe would be necessary to fit to a TR3 (which is narrower in that area than a TR6). And besides, that engine isn't going to live very long with a Judson anyway.

Maybe it's just me, but I cannot see any sense in updating everything else with modern components, and then using such a antiquated blower. Moss will sell you a nice Eaton off the shelf, with no unobtanium phenolic vanes to shred and ruin your engine; plus better efficiency for more power with less boost and less chance of engine-killing detonation.

I'm guessing there is a good reason it only has 500 miles, and it has little to do with keeping the resale value up.

But possibly someone will fall in love with it. For sure it will be the only one on the block ...

A bit underwhelmed by the 'adjustment' given to the #1 headpipe, which would have to affect flow somewhat. $65k with a reserve, hmmm.....

For such a nice TR3 I wonder about the beating the header took. Sure was flattened a little.

Personally, I think you all are making this up to pad your posts#

[ Are there really shows that have Best Debuting Restoration over $100,000.00 ]

Andrew, the show that the owner mentions is held here in Vancouver namely Van Dusen Gardens ABFM and yes they do have debuting classes as he mentions starting at 30000.00 to over a 100000.00.(Google Van Dusen ABFM and click on entry form)
In the car sport there will always be somebody with pockets that go down to the hem of their pant leg and usually an ego to go with it.I say good for them. Each to their own
I did not attend the show this year,as the weather was kind of iffy where I live(about 60 miles east of show site) so did not see the car.

As Mickey said a TR4 sold for 92k.

As much as I Iove the TR3, there are many, many, many other cars I'd spend 100K on...

I'm sorry to whomever buys this one. Looks great , but too much modern and an exhaust header flattened for the steering? Burned valves on this one. Good way to go, but the ones going for big $ are perfect to the letter restorations not modified for the current owner. Someone would have to redo some to make it for thier specs. Probably will go over the Pacific. I restored one in '75 looked as good, but doesn't now, and only had $5K in it.
