Has anyone installed the no-fail thermostat sold by either TRF or MOSS. It is designed to stay open in failure mode.

Yep - I tried one of those. Sure enough it failed within a couple of months - but stayed open!! Suppose that was what was intended. Took me a while to figure out why the car was taking for ever to warm up in the colder months.

Did they know the thermostat was so cheap it was sure to "fail" so to make up for that they designed it to do so safely? Why can't they just make one that works.

Rob.

My experience was the same as Rob. After about two months in the car I assumed it had failed because the car took for ever to reach normal operating temperature. I removed it and sure enough it was locked into the open position. I pulled back the hold open arms and it closed again. A test in my trusty thermostat testing sauce pan proved that the thermostat still worked opening at rated temperature. So the problem in my case was the hold open device hanging it up.

I replaced with a standard type thermostat.

Fail safe products. Isn't that similar to "Idiot Proof"?

The someone comes along and builds a better idiot and your new product is history.....
