Any Mac Safari users out there?

Hello,

Back in April, I bought a Mac mini. It's the first new Mac I've had since 1998. It's been a great computer and I'm glad I was able to buy it.

But there's one problem. I'm not sure if it's something I've done, or what. Most webforums, this one included, require members to log in before they can use the forum, and offer the chance for the forum to remember the user with a cookie. For some reason, that feature of Safari seems to have quit working for me, even though it seemed to work back when I first got the computer. If I quit Safari, it's like I never logged in to any of those forums. It's alot to keep track of their passwords.

In Preferences, I've set it to accept all cookies. Private browsing is not on. I tried doing a reset, but it didn't make a difference.

This problem is not too bid of a deal, but that feature is very convenient.

Any advice woud be appreciated.

Hi Bill,

I'm using Safari with no problems. I've lost my login a couple of times when I was running 'clean-up' software and inadvertenly cleaned up cookies also. You might check your cookie file while you're in Safari, close Safari, and reopen and see in you have deleted cookies in the sign off process. I've got my preferences set to only accept cookies from sites I navigate to.
Hopefully there is more Mac knowledge than mine out there.

Ok, it *is* wiping out my cookies when I quit the program. Not sure why, nor what I might have done to cause that. I'm going to go to apple.com and see what can be found there. Thanks for putting me on the right track.

Thanks to another post on the Apple discussion boards, I think I have solved the problem.

Click on the Finder.
Go to your User Library.
Open the Cookies folder.
There should be a file in there called cookies.plst or something like that.
Move that file to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari, then empty the trash.

I logged in to two forums, this one included, and told them to remember me. Then, I quit Safari. I started it again, and both forums remembered me. I haven't done a computer restart, but doubt that it will be a problem.
 
Glad you got it sorted out. I'm a Mac/Safari user as well, never any issues here.
