Nothing like spinning it in like that. Bet he's sore!

Oh - and I slept in the building in the background at 00:20. That's cool

You have to keep your airspeed up in those turns... glad he walked away!

crawling away....
looking at terra firma....
glad to be home.
amazing stuff.....

What he needed was a little boost.
Like that jet pack on that one

That parachute he's wearing didn't help any!
I would be kissing the ground, after crawlin out.

Dark coloured trousers too. phew.

The Swift Glider is a very fast and sensitive aircraft. It was designed for aerobatics in Poland in 1991 and is desired by every top aerobatic pilot around the world. My son, the US national aerobatic champion, owns one. There were only three in the US. Their not for the novice to fool with. Top speed is 178 MPH! Maneuver speed 141 MPH. Yes, were talking about a glider. There were initially, only 30 built. Not many more before the company stopped building them. That's why their so rare, so desired by champions and very expensive. It's a shame one more is gone. I would say the guy survived because of the strength of the aircraft, most gliders, would have collapsed straight back like crushing a can on impact. He was very lucky and also out of his element. JMHO. PJ

Astonishing video PJ, and what a cool thing to be champion of (though frankly even the idea scares me) thanks for sharing!

Did not look like he ever had very good control of that craft did it?
Living about 4 miles from Harris Hill "the glider capital of America" I've seen a good share of gliders, and been up in one. Wonderful craft. I'd very much like to obtain a glider pilots license some day. Think I'll stick to the basic ones though..
I once bought a VW Thing from the widow of a guy killed in a glider crash many years before. It was painted "Schweizer Sailplane Yellow".

Hey Paul- I just noticed in the first photo that his spoilers were extended... too bad he didn't retract them as that certainly may have helped.

The whole thing was very odd. Why in the world would he pop the spoilers the way he was coming in? Makes no sense! Looks like he was trying to impress someone with his flying skills. HE DID! But why drop to the ground immediately after breaking away? The whole thing is goofy. Did you notice how unstable he was when coming in? Almost like he didn't know what to do. When you put some of it together, high speed aircraft, high stall speed, inexperience and unfamiliar with the aircraft, it spells disaster. Of course this is all a guessing game. He could have had a tummy ache and had to get down in a hurry! That being the case, he probably headed for the laundry when he got on his feet after the----(Landing)! LOL! Had he been about ten feet to his left, he would have put it right on the line! Impressive!

I checked into it and found out that it was a very windy and gusty day in England, at an air show. He didn't have enough air speed on the down wind leg to make a quick 180 on to the runway, which is part of the show. Due to rough conditions, his airspeed bled of faster than he anticipated, the rest is history. My son, who knows him, and defended him, said he spent several weeks in the hospital recovering from back injuries. PJ

Ya know.... Elliot really doesn't need to see stuff like that.Or, should I say, his wife?

There have been many times I've left a thermal because it can "spoil your whole day" doing tight climbing circles with other gliders in close proximity.... it scares the e-coli out of me.
