I need a bit of help. I'm trying to get some laser etching done, and need a high quality scan of a stylised "triumph" logo.

It's going to be going on the attached - I figured since I went and got it anodized I might as well go the whole hog to make it look pretty..

I was figuring (as a heretic) that the logo for the bikes with the elongated R would look pretty nice on the plenum. I'm open to other suggestions though.

TIA, Alan

Hi Alan,
Do you mean like this? I could Email a 300 or 600 DPI scan.

that's exactly what I mean.

if you could send it to - alanatkinson@hotmail.com - it would be much appreciated...

It is on the way. At 600 DPI it is a pretty big file, about 13 meg. If you have trouble let me know & I'll send a 300 DPI scan.

It's about 9M according to hotmail - funny thing is that it takes them longer to virus scan it than it does for me to download it....

Thanks again - I think it will look pretty nice on there. I haven't seen anything that I like better thats the right shape for the piece.

Just so you get the idea - this is what I'm trying to get - silver on black of course...

Hi Alana,
Some machines need the graphics in vector form as opposed to bitmapped (I.E jpg or tiff). I should be able to convert it if you need to.

Just to be the devil's advocate....

What if instead of copping the motorcycle deal you used the Spitfire font instead? Same era as the 6... Factory approved...

Just a thought

Leaving all issues of cost/benefit aside, you wouldn't want the aggravation - trust me on this...

GregW - thanks for the offer. I'll see what the guy needs (and what he's going to charge me) - I might be getting back to you.

Jim - I saw this.
The fonts are available as a download on one of the Spit sites.

That's the problem though. For some reason this font screams Spitfire to me. I have nothing against Spits, but it somehow seems even less "right" on a -6 than the other non-standard logo.

The lettering is raised above the surface of the intake manifold - I thought about doing this, but I'm not sure it would look right 'flat'. I still have pics of the one I bought (and then sold) somewhere too. Thanks for the offer though.

For those of you who haven't seen one, there is a pic of the exact same intake manifold on Lee Janssen's TR-6 in the "engine bay pic" thread running concurrently. The "Triumph" logo on it looks even better when you see it on a manifold in person.

Logo choice

I'm going with the bike logo. I don't think the Spit font suits, and while I like the TR3 stuff, I prefer the bike logo. The guy doing it will take a jpeg or a raster so I jpg'd it using photochop.

Now I do have one other problem. The guy who did the anodizing is away until next week, so I can't ask him, and I have zero patience. Anyone know the best way to protect the aluminum that will be exposed. Can it be anodized clear over the black? Clearcoat? Or something else? I'll find out on Tuesday if I don't hear before, but I don't do waiting too well...

TIA, Alan

Re: Logo choice

This may be a longshot but go to a graphics shop that does the vinyl window decals (like the ****on MG that I had done for my rear windblocker) and have them make the Trimuph decal in heavy gauge vinyl to the exact size you want (cost me 20 bucks for the setup fee and a buck a decal for every one I wanted.) Either apply a vinyl decal, or have it done in outline or negative view, apply it to your finished surface, lightly blast it to expose textured metal, and peel the decal. You would have an etched look on your metal.

If it works.

Re: Logo choice

I have a guy who'll laser etch the thing with the exact image, the exact size I want for under $100. He's less than an hour from my door, and where I live thats a big deal. I'm driving up there tomorrow and he'll do it while I wait. I'll post a pic tomorrow when I get back so you can see what I mean.

All I need now is to figure out the best way to protect the newly exposed silver Al. I really need to wait and speak to the anodizing specialist, but I'm a wee bit impatient...
