I'm trying to figure out something as a beginner, and it's driving me up the wall because it doesn't make sense to me. It might be a software bug, but a euchre game on my computer and a different euchre game on my phone both do the same thing, and after re-reading the rules I don't understand why.

Scenario:

I picked up the king of hearts as trump. The one to the left of me leads with the ace of clubs. My partner puts down the queen of diamonds. The one to the right puts down the 10 of clubs. I have both the jack of hearts and king of hearts, which are trump. BUT IT WON'T LET ME PLAY IT! Yes, I have a 10 of clubs, but if a trump "trumps", then what's wrong?

I thought you couldn't play a trump unless you were short-suited in the played suit. I haven't played Eucre in some time and perhaps my memory of the game is wrong. Just a thought.

If I remember right. You have to follow suit. since you have a club you have to play it.

If you threw the the heart and then came back with the 10 of clubs later, you woiuld renege the hand.

You have to follow suit,
Think it was a bad play to trump the ace for the other team

as an aside, I am amazed that this many people know how to play euchre. Used to be that it was one of the most regional cards games I had even seen, restricted mostly to Ontario & Michigan.

OK, I think I've got it now. The rules do say you have to follow suit unless you are unable, but for some reason I was thinking you could play the trump. Thanks!

We learned to play when we were living in Florida. That would have been in the early '90's.

Learned at 11~12. Forgot most of it by 14.

Cards are for card tricks. :jester:
