Antenna Placement

Hello everyone-
I am a new member to the BCF and in need of a little help.
I am putting the finishing touches on my frame-off restoration and trying to get all the little odds and ends done before installing the complete interior.
So, my questions is: What is the correct placement of the antenna on a '73 TR6?
I have seen it on the passenger side right in front of the windscreen as well as the left front fender. Obviously, it is easier to mount the antenna on the passenger side in front of the windscreen since you don't have to remove the left fender to run the cable. Any help on the correct location would be helpful... Thanks!

Where ever is easiest. They were installed by the dealer, not the factory, which is why you've seen the different locations.

Shawn-
Thanks for the information. Now all I have to do is get the courage to take a drill and make a 1" hole in my freshly painted car :eeek:

While they were installed by dealers, not the factory, I've got patterns that the factory provided MG dealers to show the exact placement of antennas - don't know if Triumph did the same thing.

Tony-
Thanks for the update. I have not drilled anything yet. If anyone has the antenna templates for a TR and could let me know that would certainly be appreciated.
If all else fails, I will probably mount it just in front of the windscreen on the passsenger side.

while I actually like the look of an antenna on a classic car, there was recently a discussion on the spridget board about those who simply concealed their antennas in a fender or the trunk.

Hummm.... concealing the antenna just might interest me. I will have to look into what's available. Thanks for the suggestion.

Some Jap-a-cars used the trunklid as an antenna...Mitsubishi, for one... it requires isolating the trunk lid from ground! You may also deftly run a long piece of winding wire (thin as a hair) along the outer perimeter of the windscreen for a discreet antenna.

Only out of necessity, I placed the antenna on the MGB on the left fender. A hole was drilled in there before. I don't know about placement on a Triumph, but I thought I'd show you this electric antenna on our car. They come in various sizes. It works very well, not to noticeable and keeps the kids from pulling on it. It's easy to place on a "B" as there is a large cavity behind the wheel well splash apron. Don't know the Triumphs.

Nothing wrong with that - & it looks good!

The thin wire around the windsheild works well. I helped a buddy do this on a old VW. We tucked it under the window gasket and dropped the wire down into hood area. I cannot remember the type of wire or how he adapted it.
