Another X-Ray Image!

Hey folks,

Well I drove the Shark to work this morning and at part of my normal PM & testing of the X-ray Truck I perform a scan of my vehicle.

So what do ya think?

Pretty cool eh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I think your right headlamp pod is missing.... and the passenger footwell may have termites! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

lol (re: Doc), excellent picture!

How did you do that? As a seperate series and then splice them?

The software does all the compiling but there are literally hundreds of thin 1/8” slices made with a pencil thin x-ray beam (scanning bottom to top), put next to each other to form the image you see.

Hmmm? I'd like a scan of a TC for my collection. How-about I let you know the next time I have a major PM scheduled (QTY, Simi-Annual or an Annual) I could say you’re a technical consultant. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Is that the best resolution? Or can you do section slices like an MRI? Hmmm... I'd love to have a manipulable MRI of all my vehicles. (I wonder if the steel would mess up an MRI machine too).

Very cool stuff, Bret. You have one killer interesting job! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

DEAL! It's one heck of a drive in a TC though. I don't suppose you ever work a bit farther north? If not, it would still be worth spending all day on the freeway to get a scan.

Well I do have a system in Carson off of the 110? Should be a lot closer for you. But I just finished the QTY PM so unless you want to meet me there on a Thursday during one of my weeklys we might be able to get you in there as a guest. Would that work?

Sure it would! Carson is a fraction of the distance to SD, probably only 45 miles or so. Unfortunately this is my busiest month of the year and I only have four days off, none of which are Thursdays except for the 31st and that's subject to change.

We'll just play it by ear then. In fact I just got off the phone wiht the supervisor of the X-ray truck up there and he's telling me that the truck won't be avalible until 3PM!

Just what I need 2 to 2-1/2 hour drive up and work on the system for a couple of hours then try to make it back to San Diego in the heat of Rush Hours? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif Probably not going to get home until after 8PM now. Boy all I can say is that I must'a PO'd Somebody upstairs recently. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

The really bad news is this is the norm for the next month so maybe we can get this done in the first or second week of September?

That should work. I'm sure I'll get a Thursday off sometime. If you find yourself a little farther north, feel free to swing by for some tire kicking. I'll fire up the BBQ, not that I really need to turn it on to cook food. Sitting in that sun it's probably up to cooking temps already!

I might take you up on that offer when I have a major PM. Those usually necessitate that I have to stay overnight and that would make it easier.

Can't bring the MG because I can't get all my tools & equipment in it. But I'd sure like to check your collection out in person. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I've heard that they're developing those things for airports....can you imagine the guys scurrying behind the machine when a pretty girl goes through?
