Pure happenstance though. He stopped on the stump just long enough for me to get off two frames, then GONE.Somehow, the blurred blue adds to the shot for me. Maybe I just like blue.

Excellent shot! I like that he is on top of the tree trunk (branch?) so that his body and head have nice separation with the background. Much better than shots where the critter is "on" the tree and thus blending in with the bark. This composition, intentional or not, really helps to "see" the little guy. I agree with Greg about the splash of blue (turquoise?).This with the 80~400mm ∱4.5~5.6 at full extension. ISO 800, 1/500 sec. ∱5.6, hand-held.
Used Darktable to open shadows slightly and some slight sharpening. Cropped a bit and scaled down.
