Spitfire another Spitfire question - stuck rear hubs

eschneider said:
When I arrived this morning, I was greeted by a proud, beaming co-worker who had "taken the bull by the horns" and used brute force to seperate the hubs from the axles. He was so exuberant with his victory that he hadn't noticed that both hubs were bent to the extreme that the lug bolts were bowed inward, and one axle shaft bent/buckled at the threaded end.

ugh.
Yet another satisfied customer !!

And hopefully they will be paying for replacements?

Scott

Would be in my shop! Buggery of that sort is intolerable unless there's NO other way. Had a hub puller machined up for the job at one shop back inna '80's. I was a wrench, not the proprietor so it was lost after the shop relocated. :frown:

um, so there's a market iffen I churn a handful of these things out?

Canley Classics sells theirs for about $102 plus shipping. https://www.canleyclassics.com/?xhtml=xhtml/product/hubpuller.html&xsl=product.xsl
If priced 10-20% lower, I'd certainly be a market of one.
It's not a bad price for the "right tool"! Shipping will be painful, though (possibly in the $60+ region to the US).

On the other hand, Spitbits gives the price for one new hub flange at $184.99 (although Canley lists "reconditioned" ones for around $60).

What price the right tool?
