TR2/3/3A Another Speedo Cable Routing Question....

Hi Guys,

Just trying to check things off my list in order to get my car on the road.

Trying to install the speedo cable on my 60 TR3A that has a TR6 Tranny with the original A Type OD.

I am trying to install the cable without the angle drive and am having issues trying to figure out where the cable goes down to the bottom of the car and along the frame...does it just drop down beside the flange for the floor or does it share the opening with the handbrake? Im wondering if I might have to use the angle drive with the TR6 Tranny....

Also, found this little bit...is this supposed to be part of the cable end?

Cheers
Tush

I use an angle drive so have never tried the long cable and no right turn, but... my understanding is that the cable runs under the carpet/mat in a big half loop.

I do not recognize that extra part - some angle drives have a bushing that can fall out but that is a little (1/4") black donut (like Delrin).

If you do it without the angle drive (and with the long cable), then the cable crosses over on the ledge in front of the battery and loops down along the RH frame rail (under the floor). I think there is supposed to be a clip in the frame rail for it, but not certain offhand. Then it comes up through the back of the handbrake hole in the floor and through the hole in the side of the tunnel, and gets covered by the funny angled section on the back of the handbrake boot.

At least in my case, using the TR6 gearbox moved the cable back enough that it rubbed kind of hard against the hole, so I added a piece of split fuel line to help protect it. On my current TR3, I also had to relieve the side of the hole in the tunnel just a little bit for clearance. Here's a photo before installing the tunnel & boot

Awesome guys. Thanks. That is exactly what I need to know.

Tush; mine is run exactly as Randall has described including the split fuel line to protect it as it goes through the PB cutout. There should also be a brass cable clip with a pan head screw securing the cable in front of the battery. See you soon.

Hi Frank,

Roger that. I even have the pan head screw but I put a Robertson in to give you a chance in the concours .

Looking forward to getting it on the road.

Cheers
