TR2/3/3A Another mystery part..or two

Hi folks.. I have two of these little cup looking things. Can someone tell me what they are? The last time I had a mystery part I had to pull the tranny and pressure plate to install the bushing for the input shaft to the gearbox. The other part attaches to the right side heater/dashboard support/brace. I know it goes there somewhere but it's been 4 1/2 years. I haven't been able to find it in parts books or pictures. It's about half the length of the main brace/support. What does it do? Thanks in advance

The last pic is the ash tray support rail and spacer. I have never seen the upper cup on any of my TR's.

Thanks for the quick reply. Ash tray..hmm. Don't have one. I'll just bolt it up there and leave it. No clue on that cup. I won't throw it away yet. My car is a 1960 model that I'm putting back together and I don't want to let it get behind..like that blasted bushing. Would that ash tray support go to the firewall end or the dash end?

The cup is a part of the door handle mechanism. It is basically a spacer that goes over the handle shaft inside between the door and the framework that sits inside to hold the inner mechanism. If this was for the master cylinder the part would have a different hole at the top. In this case it is just a round hole. So you need one for each door handle.
Assuming that your car has door handles as the TR2 and very early3 do not.

I just looked on Moss online catalog and they do not list this part separately. But about a year ago I bought a set of new handles from them and received that bell shaped spacer with the new handles.

Yup, part of the door handle mechanism.

As to the ash tray support, it should be towards the passenger or fairly flush with front of the dash. The likely reason few are found beyond not being a smoker is that the ash tray is in the way of the passenger's knee if they are tall.

Well it just goes to show how quickly we forget, however I didn't spend a lot of time working on the door handles.

Either that's a tiny laptop or the cups in the pic sure look bigger than the door handle cups.

Yes..The cups on the door handles are smaller than the ones in the picture. plus, they have a square hole in the end and locked on. I'll take another pic with a scale next to it. Thanks for the reply. George

The handles in Graham's picture have the first of the two bell shaped parts showing. The part shown in the first part of this thread fits over the top of the smaller bell shaped piece. And it fits over the handle after it has been inserted into the door.
