MGB Another MGB - Still no seat belts

Picked up another MGB last night, this time a 1975 model, mostly because it has a brand new top on it and I need one for the 74.5. There will be some other parts switched around as well. Pics to follow soon. I also must stop browsing Craigslist as that place just fuels the addiction.

In light of all the recent selt belt posts, the 75 does not have any belts in it either - does have sun visors though. Are there really that many people that drive MGs without belts?? I have three MGs now and only the Midget came with a belt - drivers only. Wierd

I never put a belt on in an MG....here's a story:

Jerri & I were out driving one day in Kansas when we came to one of those license/registration check pointss. We pulled up to the state trooper (top was down) and he came over & asked for my license, proof of insurance, & registration which I duly gave him. He walked around to the rear of the car to verify the license plate was correct. When he came back, he said, "Sir, I'm going to have to cite you for not wearing a seat belt."

"Why, officer?"
I asked. "We're talking over the top of my windshield, the steering wheel is less than 2 feet from my chest, the door handle is resting against my left leg & the gear shift is poised near my right thigh. If anything were to happen, I'd be speared by one of them or the windshield would flatten back over me before I could be tossed out of the car."

He looked at me strangely, handed me my documents, tipped his hat and said, "Have a nice day, sir. Drive safely."

Nice story. Still, I seem to be on a run of MGs with seat belts removed which seems strange in a click it or ticket state like Calif. Perhaps there is a thriving black market for used MG seat belts somewhere.....

Except for the B's my MG's don't have seat belts...and the ones in the B's I never use, firstly you gotta be an gymnist to twist your body around enough to grab the thing behind the seat...and once their on I still don't trust them. Basically driving an MG on a modern highway, or even a main road is dangerous with or without seat belts.

I wear the seat belt, but I would never assume that I would survive a highway speed accident. Primarily, seatbelts save lives by keeping you in the car during a roll-over. A roll-over in an MGB would be almost invariably fatal or result in spinal injuries.

Drive carefully.

I consider 'em to primarily be a restraint to keep me where I belong while driving... crash restraint is a distant second.

Crash restrant is a dream.

Simon, you drivin' about with a big pink beach ball twixt you and the wheel?!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

It is actually Union Jack colored but I can't install it until I find a sunvisor to put the warning stickers on......

...I've just snorted beer outta me noseholes again...

Simon, you're now onna "Keyboard Hazard LIST." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Having had an MGB totaled around me- I love my seat belts. The BMW took out the entire driver side of my car, moved the door in 12 inchs, seat over 4 inchs, and wheelbase 8 inchs longer. The wife had insisted that I install the missing belts 3 months earlier. We ended up drivng backwards down a high speed 2 lane hiway on 3 wheels. From the sorness in my hips and shoulder- after the crash~ I'm glad I did.

Yikes! Hope it wasn't that beautiful B in your sig.

No, that ones the replacement before work really started on her! The totaled one was OEW with all leather and wool interior and chrome wires~
