Another Inane Jensen Healey Question...

Seems it's always something... I guess that's redundant if you own any British car. I’m constantly amazed at the cascade of seemingly unrelated mini-disasters that befall anyone who has a Jensen Healey or…

I had my JH detailed and I have to admit it is one good looking black JH. The slotted mags are now highly polished and coated to prevent oxidation in the future., how ever long that is. Now, my horn doesn’t work!

The lower fuse is blown in the "fuse block" and the circuit has a "Hard" direct short to ground somewhere in the bundle, I know that because it blows a new fuse when I put the new fuse in! Thats pretty imperical huh? Any ideas?

Now if that’s not good enough to qualify as inane, lets try this one… There is a threaded hole (I can see ground through it!) right behind both seats on the top of the interior rear wheel well, about 2/3 the way up. Can anyone tell me what is missing or what went there originally, or what could have gone there? Or… what the heck is that for?

If my description is totally inadequate, I have a photo of the "Threaded Hole" and location I can send if anyone is interested. Thanks all.

Hello Jim,
I'm unfamiliar with Jensen, or any other Healeys for that matter, but typical wiring for the horn is a feed from the fuse to the horn and then returning to the horn button which connects to earth when pushed. I.e. the circuit is live (hot) all the way to the switch.
The first thing to do is disconnect the horn feed at the horn, (Purple\yellow?) then replace the fuse. If it then blows your fault is somewhere in the loom. I would look for chafing somewhere around the frame near where the horn is located. It is rare to get a short within a loom itself. If it doesn't blow then the horn is faulty.
There may also be a horn relay, which is another possibility. You can do exactly the same with that, if there is one, to narrow down the faulty area.

The tapped hole you refer to on the wheel arch could be for a seat belt anchor. Typically 7\16" UNF thread.

Thanks Alec;

I'll be chasing electrons around the car tonight. Thanks for the heads up, I found a wiring diagram on-line, that should help too.

Afirmative on the holes, they were for the seat / sholder belt retractor. That unit is long gone, and I now have competition 3" belts and shoulder harness in place. Thanks.
