Another Happy Factory Record Certificate Owner

hey everyone,

i just got my heritage certificate the other day in the mail, and boy what quality and detail. the body number wasn't recorded, but that isn't as much of a big deal to me, just that the numbers that were recorded match my car. for those that don't know, my car has observable front end damage and i was worried about how much was replaced.

also, just to add a little humor to the day, while i was looking over the certificate the other day, i saw the section listed as "Key Numbers". I was like, "huh, i wonder how important these "key" numbers are...maybe special equipment numbers?". I of course didn't find anything in the parts book or online, so i came on here to find out what information these "key" numbers provided, if any. low and behold, i found my answer here but should have figured it out from the beginning. These "Key numbers" weren't important numbers, they were the actual key numbers...idiot. to justify my stupidity, i worked a 11 hour shift yesterday at the office...is that good enough?

on a side note (i know this post is long enough already...), my engine number was quoted as having a -HE suffix instead of what is actually on my engine, a -UE suffix. the H denotes high compression and the U denotes an emmissions controlled engine, which is obviously what i have. i'll let you all know what they do about that small problem.

How does the rest of the engine number correlate with the commission number? For a 1972, I'll assume you have a KF1xxxx commission number; is the engine number within a few hundred or so of the commission number? Seems to me a transcription error is the likely culprit here, as I hear that the old, microfilmed records at BMIHT can be difficult to read. A 1972 "Federal" model should have a "UE" engine.

How did you obtain your certificate? I've been to the site and it's not secure, so I wasn't about to enter credit card information. Do they have another option?

Thanks,

well, the numbers match my car and are "KF 10397 L" for a commission number and "KF 10255 UE" for the engine number. their data shows "KF 10255 HE" for an engine number. so close yet so far away. i figure for spending 65 dollars, they could check into it at least.

i did figure it was just re-recorded wrong, but i'm gonna make sure of it and hopefully get a new certificate.

huh, i didn't even notice it wasn't secure. i did pay by debit card but i don't keep much in my checking account anyway (crosses fingers)...

i guess us youngins are too used to using plastic money and ordering online than some slightly older folk. you could call them and do an over the phone order, or fax them i'm sure, but there is still that possibility of someone getting your card number.

There was a way to access a secure vesrion of the site that was talked about on this forum at one time. I don't remeber it but someone else probably will.

I think it was something like typing an "S" after http

[/ QUOTE ]That's pretty much exactly the spread I'd have expected. Years ago, I owned KF10224L; I don't remember the engine number, but it was close to that, about the same "gap" as your two numbers.

[/ QUOTE ]From what I've heard, they usually are very accommodating about that sort of thing.

Thanks for the reminder. I could not get into the site last night at all, but today everything went smoothly and securely.

Now I just have to sit back and wait.
