I had my starter out because of some other repairs and decided at the last minute to have it rebuilt. I called my friends over at Yankee Auto Electric in Pawtucket, RI (401-723-7898) and told them what I wanted to do. Last fall I had my alternator die at 1:00PM Friday on the day before the Lobster Run in Maine. I dropped the car off and they completely rebuilt it as well as doing the R&R and had me going in less than four hours, so that experience was a great one. Same scenario yesterday.
I dropped off the starter (which was off of the car) at 3PM yesterday, they disassembled, grit blasted, installed new bushings and new brushes, ground armature, rebuilt solenoid internally and installed new drive for $95.00. Starter looks brand new and I know it's done correctly by experts.
These guys are great. While I was there today picking it up, two other customers brought restoration alternators in for overhaul. When they saw my starter they were happy that they came in.
There are enough bad guys out there, these guys are right on the shortlist of those that are VERY GOOD!
