Another "Driver"

Just got back from Oregon 4-41/2 hours (each way).
I picked up another '78 Datsun B210.
While looking it over,I checked the gearbox -
-& found out that it was a 5 Speed! That clinched it.
It's going to be my "Let's see how cheap we can get this
thing going for" car. There's enough parts that are better
than the other one I have to make it worthwhile.Like I need another project around here.

Re: Another "Driver"

A 77 B210 was my me and the wife's first new "family car" as a married couple. Drove that thing for about 10 years and probably put 200,000+ miles on it. It was small, but it was a great, economical little car that took us all over God's grean earth!

Re: Another "Driver"

That was a good friend of mines first car.

Re: Another "Driver"

Good luck with the car, Doug. A good find, and you can always sell off the 5-speed in that car to some Spridget guy if the rest of the car falls apart.

Re: Another "Driver"

Drew,

My thoughts exactly.Helped me convince the Wife
that it was worth getting.
Of course,I could have told her that it was an
early Christmas present - but I prefer to sleep IN the
house,not outside.
I guess that explains all of the Bugeyes that keep
driving slowly by our house!

Re: Another "Driver"

We're always on the lookout for those trannys, Doug. I had one for a while, though sold it to fund other projects. I'll probably wind up buying another one some day, to have on hand "just in case."

Re: Another "Driver"

Drew,

"Just in case" - transmission....I get it!
Sorry,I couldn't resist.

Re: Another "Driver"

One of my friends in HS was the youngest of 6 kids and this was the car they all went through....I know somewhere around kid 4 or 5 it turned over 300,000 and she was kid 6 who drove it all hte way through HS and college. That car was incredible...she added gas and changed the oil...no seat left (just covers) most of the paint gone just a POS but by gosh, when she turned the key it started, stopped when she hit the the brakes and had heat. I think the radio even worked. I always remember that 5 speed Datsu as one of the most "bullet proof" cars I had ever seen!!!1 Cool score!

Re: Another "Driver"

A friend of mine raced one at the Daytona 24 hour event back in the mid '70's. Bulletproof!

Re: Another "Driver"

Such respect for the unloved Datsun B210... Cool... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Seems to me that this is a car I've seen referred to as a "lemon" of 1970's history

Re: Another "Driver"

That's cause they didn't look "cool" and like the early toyotas looked "rode hard and put up wet" I figure its because the were. I sort of recall that many were not too reliable, but by golly when you got one that ran you couldn't kill it.

Re: Another "Driver"

huh... always kind of fancied the Datsun B210... That's the one that kind of resembles a Delorean in an odd way when painted silver, isn't it?

Side note: I was following one of them early Z cars home from work the other day and couldn't help but marvel at the amount of gumption them things have. They'll chew up and spit out half the modern cars on the road in a straight line...
